2024
The 2024 Datafication and Community Activism workshop brought together community organizers, professors, and graduate students to share resources related to subverting the control of powerful institutions and organizations over minoritized communities. The goal of the workshop was to support critical connections and solidaristic cooperation. Topics discussed include: academic complicity in harmful surveillance regime; infrastructures of surveillance; carceral technoscience; resistance, participatory action research design; and building community power toward abolishing surveillance.
2021
Building on what we started back in 2019 at the first D & CA workshop, this year’s forum brought together scholars, journalists, graduate students, artists, adjunct lecturers, para-academics, public scholars, community organizers, and data/information professionals interested in thinking through the relationship between activism and research. We wanted to highlight, support, and advance activist responses to datafication, especially in the context of the lived experiences of racialized and minoritized communities.
